1) Add host / A record Name to IIS site listing
- Connect to website server
- Go to Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
- Expand correct Site Server
- Click on Web Sites on left side
- On right side, click on Descriptions to put a large number of sites in alphabetical order
- Right Click on site name which refers to the installation of DNN on which your site has been created (Example: DNN01) > Select Properties
- On Web Site tab, click on the IP Address “Advanced” button
- In popup, under Mulitiple Identities for this Website, Click on the Add Button
- In Popup:
- Ip Address: Usual IP for this server (Ex. “192.168.169.01”)
- TCP Port: Usual port used for this server (Ex. “80”)
- Host Header: Type in address / domain (Ex. “mysitename.com”)
- Click OK
- Repeat with http://www.mysitename.com version if needed!
- Click OK
- Click OK
2) Add host / A record Name to DNN site
- Login to DNN site as host or administrator
- Go to Admin > Site Settings
- Expand Advanced > Expand Portal Aliases
- Click on Add New Alias link
- Type in your new domain without the www (Ex. “mysitename.com”)
- Click on the Save button (looks like an old 3.5 inch disc) to the right of the field
- Domain name should now appear in list
- Click on Add New Alias link
- Type in new domain with the www (Ex. “www.mysitename.com”)
- Click on save button
- Name should appear in alias list
3) Test new site names – there may be issues with Name Servers, Forwarding, Propagation, etc. – Make sure address is reliable before giving it out.
Note: you may want to use Google Webmaster tools to refer to your preferred domain, www or non-www
